JAIPUR
THE PINK CITY

AMBER PALACE
Amber (Amer), about 11 km from Jaipur, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the former capital of the Kachwaha rulers. Built in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I and completed by Mirja Raja Jai Singh, the palace blends Hindu and Mughal architecture. Made of red sandstone and white marble, its grand interiors, carvings, mirrors, and the view of Maota Lake make Amber Palace truly magnificent.

Hawa Mahal
Hawa Mahal, or the Palace of Winds, was built in 1799 by Sawai Pratap Singh as a summer retreat and for royal women to observe city life unseen. This five-storey pink sandstone structure blends Hindu and Islamic styles, with jharokha windows shaped like Lord Krishna’s crown that allow cool air to circulate. An iconic landmark of Jaipur, it also houses an archaeological museum today.

Nahargarh Fort
Nahargarh Fort stands on the Aravalli Hills, forming Jaipur’s northern backdrop. Built in 1734 during Jai Singh’s reign and expanded in 1868, it protected the city from enemies. Inside is Madhavendra Bhawan, a summer palace with 12 queen suites and one for the king, connected by mural-lined corridors. Today, the fort is a popular picnic spot and offers stunning night views of Jaipur.

Albert Hall Museum
Albert Hall Museum, inspired by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, is located in the centre of Ram Niwas Garden, Jaipur. Designed by Sir Swinton Jacob in Indo-Saracenic style, its foundation stone was laid by the Prince of Wales in 1876. The museum showcases metal and wood crafts, carpets, sculptures, weapons, natural stones, ivory items, and miniature paintings from various Rajasthani art schools.

JANTAR MANTAR
Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is considered to be the largest of the five astronomical observatories built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur. It contains sixteen geometric devices, designed to measure time, track celestial bodies and observe the orbits of the planets around the sun. It also houses the Interpretation Centre that helps the tourists to understand about the working principles & chronolgy of the observatory.

JAIGARH FORT
About 15 kilometres from Jaipur, Jaigarh Fort was built by Sawai Jai Singh II sometime in the early 18th century amidst the arid, rocky and thorn-scrub covered hills. Despite its ancient construction, it still retains most of its imposing citadel appearance. Visitors can see the world’s largest cannon – Jaiban, at the fort.
